Adele on the steps of her hand created studio space a beautiful shepherds hut.

When did you start making?

I've always loved Roman mosaics. Then about ten years ago I saw a little mosaic kit of a Roman hippogriff  I bought it, and that was it, I've been totally hooked ever since.

When did you realise you wanted to make a career out of being a mosaic artist?

I entered an open art exhibition the judging panel which included some professional artists were really encouraging, they actually bought some of my winged hearts which made me realise I could sell my work.

Collected and stored crockery awaiting the hammer.

Ampersands in the making.

What do you enjoy most about the process of creating your mosaics?

I like the challenge of creating something new. For example the gun that I am working on currently or the pointing hand that took a lot of thinking about. You need to consider not just the china you are going to use but also how the grout lines are going to look, depending on what you are making, this can be crucial.

Mosaic AK- 47.

What's been your most memorable mosaic and who was it for?

My favourite mosaics always start out as something for me. When these items sell it gives me the opportunity to make another version. For example a tin of sardines, lead to an anchor, and a gun lead to a AK- 47.

Do you have a favourite craft fair that you go too?

I love going to the Affordable Art Fair which usually has some great craft and art as well as 'proper' painting!

Adele's Studio.

Who made your wonderful studio for you and can you tell us a bit more about it?

My beautiful shepherds hut was made for me by Dan Sheerman a friend of my son's. Although he's only 26 he has been making and restoring huts for over ten years and is very talented. Everyone who sees my hut is very jealous and rightly so.
If you would like your own Shepherds Hut you can contact Dan by this link www.shepherdshuthaven.co.uk

What's on the horizon?

Gosh, what a question! There are still loads of things I want to try to make in mosaic form, including an upright hoover !  Taxidermy is another skill I definitely want to learn and I have a dead mouse in the freezer ready for this occasionsI'm also really interested in paper cutting.
